WDRB has a tendency to report about a lot of social issues, human interests, and crime. The reason for this is because social issues, human interests, and crime is interesting to the viewer. It is shocking to see that there aren’t more stories about politics and government considering that the election is quickly approaching.
WDRB’s article and video “Undercover investigation: Dangerous synthetic drugs sold to teens Louisville shops” was very in depth. Stories like this can show the audience how dangerous these drugs are and how that impacts our city. The synthetic drug “Cloud 9” has become a big problem for teens today and can be very harmful for your body. Other names for the drugs include “Bizarro”, and “Mr. Nice Guy”. Some of the other names could make the drugs sound more appealing and less dangerous.
In situations involving drugs, parents are quick to defend their children. One mother says, “He never saw the bottle, they had just put it onto his tongue,” on behalf of her son. She claims, “it happened very quickly. He had an immediate reaction. His heart rate dropped, his oxygen levels dropped – he could have died”. These synthetic drugs can be harmful to your body, no matter how much is consumed.
Though a lot of WDRB’s stories are good quality, newsworthy stories, most of them are not. The stories are not considered newsworthy because the only point in reporting them is because they are interesting. WDRB needs to focus on making the important interesting, and not making the interesting important.
